25 Years of Vintners Circle | Bill Sweat and Donna Morris, Winderlea Vineyard & Winery

While we count down to the 25th anniversary celebration of ¡Salud!, get to know the members of our esteemed Vintners Circle a little bit better as they answer a handful of our hard-hitting questions. Last, but certainly not least, Winderlea Vineyard & Winery Owners, Bill Sweat and Donna Morris.

  1. What is the one thing (or things) you never leave the house without?  Our dogs Monty and Celie.  They tend to pout when we leave them for extended periods.
  2. Right or left handed?  We are both right handed.  It’s the only thing “right” about us.
  3. How do you unwind after a long day?  Definitely a glass of Oregon Pinot Noir.
  4. What is your current favorite restaurant?  The one that sells the most Winderlea.  We’re so lucky to have such great restaurants in Oregon, it’s impossible to chose.  We definitely love the A List Award Winners who are recognized for their support of Oregon Wine.
  5. What do you like best about Oregon?  The people here are amazing.
  6. Early bird or night owl?  Donna is an early bird and Bill is a night owl.  We think it was aided the success of 32 years of marriage.
  7. Favorite beverage besides wine?  Classic cocktails.
  8. What movie can you watch over and over again?  Donna loves Something’s Gotta Give; Bill is not very discerning.
  9. Guiltiest pleasure?  Taking a long break in Vermont during the holidays.
  10. What is your favorite season?  Donna loves summer and Bill loves autumn.
  11. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?  Why would any kid be thinking about a profession?  You go to school and you play.  It’s perfect.
  12. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?  Bill is an honorary Blue Footed Booby, so designated at David and Jeanne Beck’s dinner to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth.
  13. Who was your favorite celebrity as a child?  Bozo — Donna was actually Butch for a Day.  If you’re not from the east coast, you may have to look that up.
  14. What type of pets do you have?  Two mid-size Australian Labradoodles (Monty and Celie) and seven chickens (Bubbles, Gracie, Etta, Rocky, Chita, Ginger, and June).  Yes, the chickens are officially pets — they all have names.  We have bees too — but haven’t named them all yet.
  15. What is your favorite color?  Blue
  16. What word describes you best?  Aging
  17. What is your greatest accomplishment?  We are 64% of the way to our 50th Anniversary.
  18. What is your favorite food?  Pasta
  19. Where do you want to retire?  We gave up all thoughts of retirement when we bought a vineyard and started a winery.
  20. Where do you like to vacation?  Usually someplace with a great wine region.  Burgundy and Tuscany lead the list.
  21. Who do you admire?  Our parents are at the top of the list, but the founders of this industry are not far behind.
  22. If you were invisible, where would you go?  Donna:  The Oval Office.  Bill:  I would be following Donna around.
  23. What traits in others are you attracted to?  Humility and serenity.
  24. What would you do with a million dollars?  I think our bankers would have something to say about that.
  25. If you were on an island, who would you want to be with?  Why?  Bill:  I would want to be with Donna and the cast of Gilligan’s Island.  Donna, for obvious reasons, and the cast of Gilligan’s Island because they have previous experience.
  26. What is your current favorite TV show to binge-watch?  Donna:  House of Cards.  Bill:  The West Wing.
  27. What team is YOUR team?  The Boston Red Sox
  28. If today was your last day on Earth, what would your last meal be?  That depends — how far is it to the planet we are going to next?
  29. What is your favorite holiday?  May 9th — Lost Sock Memorial Day (and Donna’s birthday)
  30. What is the most used app on your phone?  Sad to say it is Facebook.
  31. What is the best costume you have ever worn?  We’re not very good about costumes.  It is an area of improvement for us.
  32. What book can you read over and over again?  We don’t get the question.  Is someone keeping you from re-reading books?
  33. If you could live at any time in history, when would it be?  At pretty much any other time in history we would be unwashed, uneducated peasants (some would argue that we still are), so we’re going to go with now.
