Abbott Claim

This small bottling comes from the very first vines planted on top of the Savannah Ridge back in 2001: a 4-acre, north-facing parcel. Not only is its aspect unique within Abbott Claim Vineyard, the rest of the property being generally south facing, but these vines also happen to be surrounded by trees, notably a dense forest to its western border where runs a seasonal creek and grow white truffles, blowing cool air through the block. In addition to the singular microclimate, the soil at the top of the hill is also a little deeper and richer, with more topsoil sitting on the old, dry and eroded sandstone, less subject to erosion thanks to the gentle slope and surrounding trees. These grapes were fermented in a wooden tank with native yeasts and kept unfined and unfiltered ahead of bottling.
